During the 1920s, car camping was very popular, and people would park their cars by the River and pitch tents in what is now the Park. Lamb Cottage started as a comfort station and general store, serving the car-campers.
Crowds flocked to a nearby swimming hole, complete with docks, a water wheel, life guard, and bath house. Times have, of course, changed and camping in public parks such as Skinner’s Butte is now frowned upon.
